UPDATE: Kim has released an official statement to E! News regarding news of the divorce:

“After careful consideration, I have decided to end my marriage. I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision. I had hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things don’t work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best.“

Ryan Seacrest confirmed during “On Air with Ryan Seacrest” that Kim Kardashian has filed for divorce from Kris Humphries after only 72 days of marriage.

“There are reports online that Kim Kardashian is filing for divorce. That is true,” Ryan explained. “She is filing for divorce from Kris Humphries this morning. I’ve spoken to her briefly, and she is sad and got caught up in all that was going on [in the wedding]. We’re going to have a statement from Kim in just a little while. There were rumors up until the wedding, and after the wedding a lot of rumors about it. It is true.”

According to E! News, divorce papers cited “irreconcilable differences,” and since there is a prenuptial agreement in place, Kim asked that the terms of the agreement be upheld. The 31-year-old will be represented by veteran divorce lawyer Laura Wasser who has also handled other A-list celebrities including Britney Spears, Maria Shriver, Angelina Jolie, and Ryan Reynolds.

Speculation as to the primary cause of the split, but it’s long been reported the two regularly butted heads on where the pair would call home. Minnesota, where Kris is from, or Los Angeles which is home for the Kardashian clan.
